The Greater Maple Valley-Black Diamond Chamber of Commerce serves these two incorporated cities connected by SR169 in southeast King County. The 'greater' includes the surrounding communities of Ravensdale and Hobart and parts of unincorporated King County from Renton north on SR169 then south through Black Diamond.
The Chamber was incorporated on April 14, 1965 for the purpose of "the advancement of the civic, commercial, industrial, and agricultural interests of Maple Valley and the surrounding territory; the promotion of the general welfare and prosperity of the area, county and its surrounding territory, and the stimulation of public sentiment to these ends; and the providing of such social features as will promote these purposes".
Today's Mission Statement reflects the similar purpose of "providing leadership, promoting a healthy economic base, and elevating the overall standard of living while enhancing the general welfare of the area". The notable difference in the language is the omission of 'agricultural interests'. MapleValley especially has experienced a phenomenal shift from rural to urban in the last decade.
The population of the City of Maple Valley is nearly 18,000; the population of Black Diamond is approximately 4,025. The incorporated area of each city is just over 6 square miles.
We invite you to explore our communities and enjoy their mix of urban and rural features as well as the recreational activities of our lakes and rivers. The Green River cascades through a gorge at the south end of Black Diamond, and the Cedar River escorts you into Maple Valley from the north along the Maple Valley Highway from Renton. Both cities offer panoramic views of Mt. Rainier and also celebrate several private lakes as well as the public use lakes of Lake Sawyer in Black Diamond and Lake Wilderness in Maple Valley.
The Greater Maple Valley-Black Diamond Chamber of Commerce office is located in Maple Valley City Hall, 22035 SE Wax Road. Scheduled office hours are 10 am to 2pm Monday-Thursday.
